Fuel On Board Michael Dreher-Byrd - Robert Fulling - Melissa Davis - Matthew Plourde

Introduction The purpose of the fuel on board project is to design and create an economical fuel measurement system for general aviation aircraft that will measure and display the mass of usable fuel inside a tank within ± 3% error.

Calculations Float R=V/I After finding R, we find the change in R, dR This change has a correlation with the height of the float Capacitance Cdelta=((L-x)*λ)/V The x is the height of the fluid while L and λ are constants that are provided and V is the voltage which will be measured

Capacitance -We have put together our prototype capacitance tubes -The prototype will take readings of voltage and output the height of the fluid inside the tank -The data received will output the value for height using the calculations previously mentioned by using a program in Labview

Floats -We have finished the design and creation of the sending unit -The sending unit consists of four potentiometers for a better average reading -We have started to get the wires connected in preparation for the testing

Floats cont. -We are still using the V=I*R formula, however we are taking into account the curve that the floats take as they arc around the potentiometer -Labview is used to present the data and has been programed to show a table of heights for our four floats and a fifth image of the height of the fluid in the tank

Progress -We have started writing reports to be edited by Dr Ash in preparation for our final project -these reports include our Deionized water, DAQ information, Background information reports, and several others

Testing -We have gotten all of our testing equipment -We have received the DAQ card -We have downloaded and programed Labview -Our modified tank and simulator are put together and all we need to do is wire everything together to start testing

Conclusion -We are starting testing of our capacitance and float prototypes this week -We are pre-testing so we have values that we expect from our experimental testing -We have our calculations completed and input into our program for correct interpretation of our test data
