Realistic Fiction September Genre of the Month

Realistic Fiction Realistic Fiction stories are fiction stories that could be true, but aren’t. Realistic fiction stories are usually set in the present, meaning they read like they are happening right now. Characters like aliens, talking animals, or magicians would make a story fiction, but not realistic fiction.

Let’s Practice Identifying Realistic Fiction books. Realistic Fiction? Yes or No

Realistic Fiction? Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security, is framed for the murder of a chicken and becomes an outlaw with the coyotes. How will get out of this mess? 1.

Realistic Fiction? Greg records his sixth grade experiences in a middle school where he and his best friend, Rowley, undersized weaklings amid boys who need to shave twice daily, hope just to survive. When Rowley grows more popular, Greg must take drastic measures to save their friendship. 2.

Realistic Fiction? Mr. Popper spends quiet evenings at home with his family and his travel books, until one day a mysterious package arrives. Pretty soon the Poppers have a house full of penguins, an ice rink in the basement, and an ever-increasing bill for raw fish and canned shrimp. Time to take this show on the road! 3.

Realistic Fiction? When Stink learns that Pluto has flunked out of the Milky Way for being too shrimpy, he feels like he might just explode with a Big Bang. Stink has no choice but to take a stand for the sake of little planets (and little people) everywhere. Will he be smart enough to defeat a panel of big-shot scientists? Will he succeed in rescuing Pluto from a fate worse than being swallowed by a black hole? 4.

Realistic Fiction? Rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry 5.

Realistic Fiction? Text and photographs tell all about the guanaco, a large South American animal that looks like a camel. 6.

Realistic Fiction? Marty finds a lost beagle in the hills behind his West Virginia home, and tries to hide it from his family and the dog's real owner, a mean-spirited man known to shoot deer out of season and to mistreat his dogs. 7.

How did you do? No Yes No Yes No Yes

Where can you find realistic fiction books in the Media Center? You may only check out 1 Wildcat Favorite at a time. Not all books in this section are Realistic Fiction books.

Secret Symbols Remember, Secret Symbols are hidden in random books that fall into the Genre of the Month. To find a Secret Symbol, you must check out a book that falls into the Genre of the Month. If you find a Secret Symbol, bring the symbol and the book back to the Media Center on your next visit and you will win a prize! And remember if you find a Secret Symbol, it’s a secret as to what it looks like. So don’t tell anyone. Let everyone have a chance to discover the “secret” for themselves.

Any questions?
