Examples of API activities with GHA-2014 Greater Horn of Africa, GHA. Due to our past work in the continent of Africa, I was invited to present a keynote address at the 36th GHA climate meeting held in Uganda. The meeting was attended by over 350 delegates from 12 GHA countries. I was also a member of a sub-group who worked on ‘Climate information needs and priorities for health sector in GHA.’ The outcome of the presentations was that I was asked to lead on developing proposal for Climate Health projects for GHA. I have recruited 13 members for this project, based on our previous activities in the continent. The team members will consist of 4 from CSHS and a member each from PDR and CSAD. We also have one member each from Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda, Rwanda, Public Health Wales, NHS wales and Abertawe Bro Morgnannwg University Health Board.

Examples of API activities with Uganda-2014 Uganda: Our work on Malaria has continued with paper publication (highly accessed) in Malaria Journal and Conference presentations in South Africa Nigeria and USA. Granted funds to cover travel costs for our partner, David Musoke from School of Public Health Makerere University, to present a paper at the 78th National Environment Health Association conference in Los Angeles, July Awarded grants from Training Health Researchers into Vocational Excellence (THRIVE) and the World Health Organisation Africa Regional office (WHO AFRO) and Tropical Disease Research (TDR) for implementation Research (TDR) for the malaria work. Awarded by the World Health Organisation, a Tropical Disease Research (TDR) training grant to cover tuition fees for David Musoke, PhD student at CSHS Submitted a Medical Research Council research application under the Public Health Intervention Development Scheme (PHIND) for a feasibility study for the randomised controlled trial for the integrated approach to malaria prevention in Uganda.

Prof Kaimenyi currently Cabinet Secretary for Education ( : June: Visit of Vice- Chancellor, Academic Registrar and Director of Biotechnology Research Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, JKUAT, to CSHS. 2009: September: Seminar on Emergency Preparedness and Response, jointly with JKUAT and Health Protection Agency.

Examples of API activities with Kenya : April / May :Two senior academic staff from JKUAT spend sabbatical leave at CSHS. 2010:June: Visit of the current Permanent Secretary Ministry of Medical Services and Director of Higher Education, Kenya, to CSHS. 2011: Two senior academic staff from CSHS present guest lectures/ seminars, attend meetings with senior government and university officials in Kenya. 2011/2: CSHS working with Kenya Medical Training College on a top up BSc. Degree in Environmental health. 2012: CSHS funding 2 staff from JKUAT to spend sabbatical leave at CSHS. 2012: Conference on public health funded by CSHS held in Kenya and attended by our partners from Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda. Cameroon and Kenya.

Examples of API activities with Kenya A senior academic staff member from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, JKUAT, visited CSHS as part of the collaboration between the two institutions. As part of the continued collaboration between CSHS and College of Health Sciences, COHES, at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, JKUAT, Kenya, Prof George Karani and Dr Keith Morris visited JKUAT for two weeks. The visit was funded by JKUAT, and Prof Karani and Dr. Morris activities included holding meetings with senior university officials including the Vice- Chancellor Prof Mabel Imbuga, DVC (Academic), DVC (RPE) and Acting Principal COHES among other officials. The staff from CSHS gave lectures to students of public health, biochemistry and medical microbiology and presented a number of research seminars to staff and students at the College of Health Sciences.

Examples of API activities with Kenya Discussions were also held with staff at JKUAT on continued development of joint research projects; grant applications, supervision of research students and student exchanges between the two universities. Prof Karani attended, as an observer, an oral examination for a research student at COHES. While in Kenya, we took some gifts to Nyamathumbi primary school. This is a primary school that CSHS has continued to be associated with since This year, over 16 pupils were admitted to join secondary schools in the country, which is a significant achievement for the school and the community.
