2 Introduction / a little history Since 1985 Brazilian A3 has been involved in the production of so far 4 technical books covering the following major contents: system configuration with substation equipment, transient behaviors in power system, principle and performance of circuit breakers for different technologies, disconnector, earthing switches, switching duties, testings, voltage & current transformers, etc. CIGRE SC A3 Green book proposal by Brazil HV Equipment – Specification and Application to AC substations (1985) Produced under the coordination of Cigré A3 Brazil and sponsored/costs covered by a federal utility (FURNAS) and a federal university in Rio de Janeiro (UFF) Electrical Transients and Insulation Coordination–Application to HV Power Systems (1987) Produced under the coordination of Cigré A3 Brazil and sponsored/costs covered by a federal utility (FURNAS) and a federal university in Rio de Janeiro (UFF) Circuit Breakers & Switching Devices – Application to HV Power Systems (1996) Produced under the coordination of Cigré A3 Brazil and sponsored/costs covered by Cigré A3 Brazil HV Equipment – Prospection and Hierarquization of Technological Innovations (2013) Produced and sponsored/costs covered by a R&D project of the National Regulatory Agency for Electric Sector (ANEEL) under the coordination of Mr Sergio Frontin and with the participation of Cigré A3 Brazil

3 Introduction / a little history Since 1985 till now about 50 authors have been collaborating with a complimentary Brazilian A3 books, produced only in Portuguese, and so far there wasn’t even a minor problem related to copyright or any other related issues. All those 50 authors who have contributed with technical contents of Brazilian A3 complimentary books authorized the transference of copyrights for Cigré, and/or the editing institutions, without any cost involved. Since 1985 the books produced have been given to students, university technical/educational staffs, utility engineers and researchers as a gift, to be used as reference/text books. Also, since early 2000s, Brazilian A3 has been distributing the electronic versions of such complimentary books as part of material provided to all attendees of tutorials / workshops related to A3 scopes. 4 Proposals for the GB production on CB & Switching devices: As a proposal for a 1 st step in the work to be developed for the SC A3 Green Book we have the possibility of translating from Portuguese into English the contents of the 1995/2013 updated Brazilian A3 complimentary books. Thus, the translation of A3 Brazilian Complimentary Books on ‘Circuit Breakers & HV Switching devices’ could be a start for technical discussions upon the subject (within volunteered international members of A3 Green Book Project). In a 2 nd step, this material could be updated / revised and added with additional contributions and recent information (based on CIGRE documents such as TBs) by the international members (volunteered international members of A3 Green Book Project). In a 3 rd and final step, the produced contents would be submitted to the editorial revision by A3 Editorial Team. Create a login-password for the A3 Green Book Project Members at the A3 web-site. All such 3 proposed steps should last about 4 years, starting the process/work in 2014 and ending in the beginning of CIGRE SC A3 Green book proposal
