DNA Replication
Each cell within a body contains the same DNA sequence. Why? Before the cell divides, an exact copy of DNA is made- process called REPLICATION.
How is DNA Replicated? DNA DNA Replication begins when DNA unwinds and unzips (helicase enzyme splits 2 strands apart). Each strand serves as a template (model). STEP 1
Helicase enzyme
STEP 2 One nucleotide at a time, moves along the parent strand constructing a new complimentary strand. STEP 2 DNA polymerase
STEP 3 Nucleotides are connected to form sugar-phosphate backbone. Enzymes proofread DNA and repair errors. Each molecule is now made of original chain and a new chain of nucleotides. STEP 3 ***Once the replication is complete, the cell can begin dividing.
