How To Apply Eye Make-Up By Becca Watkin

Eyeliner Application Before you begin applying the eyeliner, there are a few things you should do; firstly, apply any other eye makeup you want to use before adding eye liner and mascara. It may also be helpful if you remove dangly bracelets and watches as they can often get in the way or just become irritating distractions. Make sure you have a good mirror and lighting so that you can properly see what you are doing when using the eyeliner. 1. The eyeliner pencil should be able to draw a thin, unbroken line along your skin - test it on your hand or arm first. Either sharpen it until the line is thin enough, or if it is too thin, draw a line on a tissue, which will make the tip blunter. 2. You should hold the eyeliner pencil as you would hold a pencil or pen to write with, usually with your dominant hand. Use your other hand to stretch the eye you are going to line from the outer corner. You can rest your hand holding the pencil against the hand pulling your lid taut. 3. Don't try to focus on your whole eye lid at one time - just look at the part you are drawing on. The line should be just above your eye lashes on the top lid and just below on the bottom, and should extend just to the outer corner of your eye. 4. Be wary if your eyeliner pencil tip is quite dry, as this may pull at delicate eye tissue. Draw the line with care if this is the case.

Liquid Eyeliner Application 1. Liquid eyeliner comes in a bottle rather like ink, and you must use a separate brush to apply. The best result will come from a point liner brush. 2. It is natural to close your eye as you draw the line, but if you keep it open, it will actually make it easier to follow the curve of your lid and thus have a straighter line. 3. You do not need to try and paint a continuous line with liquid eyeliner. It is actually easier to pain a few small dashes onto the lash line, eg. Inner corner, middle and outer corner, then go back and connect them. 4. If you want a thicker line than this initial thin one, build it up gradually. Start at the middle of the lash line and draw towards the outer corner. You can extend the line slightly past the outer corner of your eyelid if you wish.

Mascara Application 1. The first step will be to choose the right kind of mascara. Now that you know the types, choose according to the occasion. For evening parties, volumizing mascara, and for day events, lengthening mascaras can generally do the magic! Choose the mascara color also carefully. For example, brown-black mascara is right if you want to have a dramatic look. Refer to eye makeup ideas for more tips. 2. Curl the lashes with an eyelash curler. Place the eyelash curler as close as possible to the lash line, so that all the lash hairs get curled. Hold the curler for about 10 seconds and release. Never curl eyelashes after mascara is applied as it can cause the eyelashes to break. 3. This is a very important step. Pull the eyelash wand from the tube in just one go, if you take more time the air will enter the tube which will dry the mascara sooner. Taking more time also results in the danger of bacteria also entering the tube. Wipe the wand on a tissue lightly, to get rid of the excess mascara. This will avoid clumping. 4. First start with the upper eyelash. Hold the wand parallel to your eyelid. Start moving the brush from underside to the tip of the eyelash, i.e. from the bottom to the top of the eyelash. Roll the brush, move it to and fro, to separate the eyelashes. Read more on eyelash dye. 5. With an eyelash comb, separate the stuck lashes. Just lightly wiggle the comb through the tips of the lashes. 6. For the lower lash, start from the outer part of the lower lash. Just go on applying in a downward stroke, exactly opposite to the upper lash application.

Eyeshadow Application 1. Find an eye shadow colour that compliments your eye colour. For blue eyes, use a blue or brown shade. For brown eyes, try purples and browns. Hazel eyes should use plums and pinks. Green eyes should try green or plums. Grab a basic eye shadow brush and run it across the top of your shade of choice. 2. Gently blow on the tip of the powdered shadow brush, or tap it lightly on the side of your eye shadow compact to remove any excess. Next, sweep the brush across your entire top eye lid stopping just before reaching the crease. To make the colour bolder, apply a second coat. 3. After applying one to two coats of eye shadow, it's time to move onto a darker shade. Go for a colour that is similar to your first shade, only a little darker. Run the eye shadow brush over the darker shade. 4. Sweep the slanted brush across the lid starting at the outside corner of the lid. Brush the shadow along the crease of the lid towards the inside corner of the eye. Apply a small amount of the darker shade to the slanted brush once more and sweep it along the lash line from the outside corner of the lid towards the inside corner along the lash line. 5. Clean off your basic eye shadow brush, ensuring there is no shadow on it. Run the brush across a light rose or white shimmer shadow. Sweep the shadow above the crease of the eye lid just under the eyebrow to finish the look.

I hope you know how to apply all types of eye make-up now that you’ve seen my PowerPoint. Thanks for watching!
