The Vocal Cords.

Where are the vocal chords located? The Vocal cords (also known as the larynx) are located above the trachea (the tube that extends from the base of the larynx to the bronchi.) The Vocal Cords are mostly made up of soft tissue and therefore can be easily ruptured.

A few things the Vocal Cords are Used for. The Vocal Cords are used for obvious everyday events. Screaming Singing Talking Crying Humming Squeak or squeal Yodeling Cat calling (MeoW) Vibrato

Vocal Disorders Polyps- Benign Tumors located on the vocal Cords. Caused by excessive smoking and vocal misuse and possibly from malfunction in the thyroid gland Laryngitis- Inflammation of the vocal cords. Usually resulting in hoarse of raspy voice. Causes: Infections, inhaled irritants etc… Nodules- extreme use of the vocal cords. Grow in pairs and are small benign tumors in the vocal folds. Paralysis- Caused by Head trauma, thyroid cancer, neck injury etc… One of the only vocal disorders that can be potentially life threatening. One or more of the vocal cords is not capable of being used.
