How can I train my family be fire safe? Part 3

This is Jessica and James They live with two dragons called Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon

Tiny Dragon is very worried that…. …….James is reaching for the matches Never touch matches or lighters

Jessica stops her little brother touching the matches and calls for a grown up

Remember this rhyme and teach it to younger children….. Matches, lighters never touch They can hurt you very much

….the hot part of the iron is on the material, and could start a fire. The wire is dangling where people need to get past and could be tripped over. There is no adult near the iron. Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are worried because……. Stay away from irons and be careful around the wires. Ask the adults to stay with the iron if it is hot Ask the adults to put the iron stood upright when it is not is use

Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are worried because…… ….the charger has been left switched on. Switch off when not in use

Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are worried about these plugs because… …. there are too many plugs from one wall socket Do not overload sockets

Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are worried because……. ….there are toys all around the cooker. Someone could trip over these. keep toys away from the cooker

Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are worried because……. …..the t-towel has been left on the oven door and the grill is on, the T-towel could catch fire. hang tea towels to dry away from the hot oven and grill

Tiny Dragon is worried about the top of the cooker area because… …the frying pan handle is sticking out. This could get knocked and the hot food split over someone. Keep pan handles turned in The saucepan handle is over the hot hob, this will make the handle hot and dangerous for anyone to hold. Make sure pan handles do not overhang hot hobs The wooden spatula is near the hot hob, it could catch fire. make sure spoons and spatulas are put down safely The kitchen roll is overhanging the hot, it could catch fire. keep the area around the cooker clear and tidy so things do not get knocked onto the hot hob The wooden chopping board is very close to the hot hob, it could catch fire. keep chopping boards away from the hot hob The sharp knife is overhanging, someone could hurt themselves on it. be very careful with sharp knives

Big Dragon and Tiny Dragon are also worried because there is nobody in the kitchen and the cooker is on. There should be someone with the cooking. Don’t call the adult away from the kitchen when they are cooking

James and Jessica are glad the chimney has been swept, so Father Christmas can get down (and so there isn’t a chimney fire). They know not to play near the fire when it is on

If someone smokes in your home, never touch their smoking materials and ask them to make sure their cigarettes are right out.

To be continued… … on Part 4
