Hand Washing When to Wash Your Hands After blowing/wiping the nose After being around a sick person After any cleaning session After going to the toilet Prior to eating meals or snacks Whenever hands are soiled

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 1. Adjust water to a comfortable level and wet hands. Dispense a small amount of soap into the palms of the hands creating a lather.

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 2. Using as much friction as needed, thoroughly clean all surfaces of hands including between the fingers.

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 3. Pay attention to the nails and nail beds by rubbing the nails of one hand across the palm of the other, creating enough friction  to clean underneath the nails.

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 4. Rinse the hands under running water, being sure to hold the hands in a downward position.

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 5. Use paper towels or warm air blower to thoroughly dry the hands.

Correct Hand Washing Procedure 6. Using the same paper towel, turn off the water supply.

Dos and Don’ts When Using a Thermometer: Read the manufacturer’s instructions on the proper use and the range of normal temperature readings for each type of thermometer. Wash the glass or digital thermometer with soap and water before and after use

Dos and Don’ts When Using a Thermometer: Allow your child to bite the thermometer Take mouth temperature within 30 minutes of your child consuming hot or cold food and drinks Allow your child to talk when taking mouth temperature Allow your child to move about when taking armpit temperature

Correct Temperature Taking Procedure 1. Using a glass thermometer: Wash the thermometer with soap and water before use. Shake the thermometer a few times to bring the level of the mercury below 35°C Only armpit reading is recommended for glass thermometer

Correct Temperature Taking Procedure 1. Using a glass thermometer: Armpit reading: Place the thermometer under the armpit. Fold your child’s arm across the chest to hold the thermometer in place Read the temperature after 5 minutes Wash thermometer with soap and water after use.

Correct Temperature Taking Procedure 2. Using a digital thermometer: Wash the area of the thermometer in contact with mouth or armpit with soap and water before use. Switch on the thermometer, and wait for it to be ready to register a reading Both mouth and armpit readings are suitable for digital thermometer:

Correct Temperature Taking Procedure 2. Using a digital thermometer: A. Armpit reading (child <7 years old): Place the thermometer under the armpit. Fold your child’s arm across the chest to hold the thermometer in place. The thermometer will signal/beep when the temperature display is ready for reading. Read the temperature.

Correct Temperature Taking Procedure 2. Using a digital thermometer: B. Mouth reading (child >7 years old): Place the thermometer under the tongue. Ensure your child’s lips are closed around the thermometer. Tell your child NOT to bite the thermometer. The thermometer will signal/beep when the temperature display is ready for reading.
