The paper towel survey Group 5

Why we chose to do this survey? To see if people could tell a difference between national brands vs. generic brands

Hypothesis: Consumers will be able to tell a difference between national and generic brands National brands will be more absorbent and durable than generic brands Consumers will pick a national brand of paper towels over a generic brand of paper towel

Procedures: Complete a survey asking about demographics, paper towel usage & miscellaneous questions Complete experiment for 3 different types of paper towels Rate each category for each paper towel on a scale from 1-5 (5 being the best)

Testing softness: Feel paper towel with hand or as they wanted Rate the paper towel softness on a scale from 1-5

Testing absorbency: Clean up 1 teaspoon of water and 1 teaspoon of ketchup (using 1 sheet of paper towel for each cleaning) Rate the paper towels absorbency on a scale from 1-5

Testing durability: Hold wet paper towel (used in the absorbency test) as we added weight to it by placing golf balls on it Keep adding golf balls until participants felt the paper towel rip Rate the paper towels durability on a scale from 1-5

Final questions: Participants were asked: Which paper towel, in their opinion was best quality Which paper towel they liked best Guess which brand each paper towel was

Results: Participants demographics: 50/50-male/female Mainly 20-30 years old Most are enrolled in college & Caucasian

Results supporting Hypothesis 1 Hypothesis: Participants will be able to tell the difference between national brands and generic brands. 17/29 participants correctly identified Bounty paper towels when asked to guess.

15/29 participants correctly identified Brawny paper towels when asked to guess. 15/29 participants correctly identified generic paper towels when asked to guess.

Results supporting Hypothesis 2 Hypothesis: National brands will prove to be more absorbent and durable than generic brands

National brands, Bounty and Brawny, did prove to be more absorbent and durable than the generic brand of paper towel

Results supporting Hypothesis 3 Hypothesis: Participants will like a national brand of paper towels more than a generic brand. All participants when asked to choose which paper towel they liked best chose a national brand.

Conclusion: Limitations: Place we preformed the procedure could have been generic for all participants to make data more consistent Our hypothesis were proven to be true by our survey and experiment!
