Investigation 1 Paper Towel Absorption

For this investigation we were provided with different types of paper towel, plastic plates and some water and asked to devise an investigation with these materials. Introduction

Which brand of paper towel will absorb the most water in a set time period? Focus Question

The Process 1. For each brand of paper towel we put 100ml of water in a plastic plate 2. We then dropped a single sheet of the paper towel into the plate and allowed 5 seconds for the paper towel to absorb as much water as possible

The Process 3. We then tipped the excess water from the plate into a cup for measuring 4. The water was then measured and the results were recorded

The Results

This investigation only used a small variety of paper towels and didn’t allow for the changing of any variables. Some of those variables could dramatically change the results of the investigation and are listed below  Larger variety of paper towels  The amount of water added  The number of paper towel sheets used  The container used to hold the water and paper towel  The amount of paper towel in contact with the water Variables

 With the results that we recorded we found that Woolworths brand was the most absorbent paper towel of the three absorbing 100 ml of water.  If a more thorough investigation was to be conducted, variables could be changed and a larger sample of paper towels could be tested. Summary
