T HINGS TO REMEMBER Cosmetology Common Sense

T OWELS Towels need to be placed in the correct bins to be washed. White towels are to be used when any type of bleach is used. Black towels are to be used for coloring NOT bleach. Red and blue towels are older and may be used for either service.

C APES AND C HAIRS Capes always need to be behind the chair both at the shampoo bowl and the styling chair. If the client moves and the capes is not behind the chair politely ask the client to move forward so you can readjust the cape. Capes not being behind the chair will result in wet and /or dirty clothes for the client. This is unprofessional and embarrassing to the stylist. Note: If the shampoo chair is too close to the sink the result will be a cape that is bunched up and not over the back of the chair.

S INKS Before you leave the sink make sure there is no mess left behind. The neck rest should be wiped to remove any traces of color, shampoo or perm solutions. Check the floor to make sure there is no water. It is a safety hazard.

G LOVES **DIRTY GLOVES ARE DIRTY HANDS** When applying color do NOT touch any thing until you wash your gloves. You wash gloves the same as your hands. Do not go to mix more color until you wash your gloves. Do not get the color remover for the skin until you wash your gloves. Gloves must be washed, dried and put away …….not left at the sink in a ball!

Consider this the first warning!! If you are guilty of not following any of the above you will be expected to houseclean the shop. The second offence will result in staying after class to paint or stain damaged surfaces.

M IXING C OLOR AND C OLOR BOWLS Color should always be mixed with a dark towel or piece of paper underneath. Open color tubes should not be set on the counter or station again use a towel or paper underneath. Color bowls should never be set on a station without protection underneath. Any color that is dropped or spilled needs to be cleaned up immediately.

Consider this the first warning!! If you are guilty of not following any of the above you will be expected to houseclean the shop. The second offence will result in staying after class to paint or stain damaged surfaces.

D RAPING FOR C HEMICAL S ERVICES Two towels should be used for chemical services. One towel is under the cape and one is over the cape. DO NOT apply any color or perm solution to a client unless you have a towel under and over the cape. If a towel is wet change it immediately. Shampooing requires a towel under the cape. Haircutting requires a towel under the cape while shampooing and then changing to a neck strip only while cutting. Do not tie the neck strip!! Tuck the end in. NEW FOR COLORS AND PERMS PLACE A PLASTIC BAG OVER CLIENTS CLOTHING AND UNDER TOWEL.

T OPICS OF C ONVERSATION All topics of conversation should be appropriate. You should speak only words that build people up when sharing information. Do not discuss anything that might be offensive or negatively shocking to someone.

D RESS C ODE Uniforms include scrubs, smocks, closed toes and heels for shoes. Scrub pants should not be put on over other clothing.
