Keep handles of pans and skillets from extending over sides of stove or over another hot burner. To avoid a steam burn, lift up the edge of the cover farthest away from you.

Preventing Burns, Cuts, & More… Spills Wash & Dry hands thoroughly (wet hands slip & are unsafe with hot pans & electrical appliances). Wipe up spills immediately with paper towels. Walk, don’t run! Cuts If you break a glass, use a paper towel to pick up the pieces. Sweep up remaining pieces.
Knife Safety Always use a cutting board to protect the counter If it slides on counter while cutting, place a damp cloth underneath cutting board to prevent sliding. Never place a knife in a sink of hot soapy water. Never try to catch a falling knife.
Preventing Fire Keep fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Be sure you know how to use it. Wear clothing that is not loose or drapes below your wrists. Keep hair tied back Avoid leaving the kitchen if you have food cooking or baking. Always turn the oven or stove top off when finished. Smother a grease fire with a tight – fitting lid, salt, or baking soda.
