Cool Chain Development in Pakistan

Why Cool Chain ? Around 20-40% of the horticulture produce is wasted in post harvest stage In financial terms, loss works out to about US $ 0.6 billion (Rs.50 billion) per annum. After implementation of proposed project, even if these losses are reduced by 1/2, the annual saving to the economy will be US$ million

What Infrastructure is Needed? a) 39 Modern pack-houses (including cold storage facilities) at 31 locations b) 23 cold storages (including CA storages & VS ) at 23 locations (13-production areas, 7-airports, 3-seaports) c) Two Reefer container yards (250 containers each at Lahore & Karachi) d) 6 Food Testing Laboratories (at 6 locations)
