1300s In the 1300s the snare drum was just created in Medieval Europe and was known as the tabor or the “instrument with an indefinite pitch.” It was made with wood, two pieces of animals skin to put on the top and bottom of the snare. They used a pair of carved sticks to play 1300s The snare drum was used in battle by the Swiss Mercenary foot soldiers to give off signals. In order for them to carry the snare around they made a strap to put across there right shoulder so it would be easy to walk and play simultaneously.

1400s In the 1400s the Swiss Mercenary Foot Soldiers carried snares to alert and give signals during a battle. To make the snare mobile, they used a strap attached to the snare and put it over there right shoulder. Now they were able to play and march through the battlefield simultaneously. 1600s Later on, in the 1600s they put screws into the snare drum to produce less rattling from the drum, and made the sound sharper.

1800s In the 19 th century they began making snares out of copper and made them smaller so it could produce a crisper and lighter tone. They added laces, called snares. But later they created fop hoops, this only required screws which controlled the tension of the snare. 1950s In the mid-20 th century the snare had a turning point and became very popular all around the world. They used plastic to created the head of the drum rather than animal skin. This saved animals and cost cheaper.
