Genesis Chapter 3 Fig Leaves Church – going Religious exercises Ordinances Rules Philanthropy Altruism Personal Efforts

Genesis 4:1-2 1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Genesis 4:1-2 Cain Ka'yin The son of Adam and Eve and possible twin brother of Abel. Means, striking as with a spear; acquire or acquired from God. Abel Abel Habel was the brother of Cain. These two brothers were the first sons of Adam and Eve. His name means, breath. Abel is mentioned eight times in the fourth chapter of Genesis, but he is not mentioned again until the book of Matthew 23:35. However, Cain is mentioned 16 times in the fourth chapter of Genesis, but he is not mentioned again until the book of Hebrews 11:4.

Luke 11:50-51 Able was also a prophet: 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

Genesis 4:3-4 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

Genesis 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

The Price of Sin is Shedding of Blood God showed Adam and Eve this principle He allowed the blood of innocent animals to pay for men’s sins The animal blood was a covering for sin, it didn't get rid of it Under that covering, the sin was still there Christ would change all that

Genesis 4:6-7 6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Genesis 4 God Accepts Abel’s Sacrifice, Not Cain’s Abel is a Shepherd Cain is a farmer Sacrificing must have been normal and regular Sacrifice would take place at Entry to Garden, Not in it God Accepts the sheep but not the plants

Genesis 4 Why did God Accept One, but Not the Other? Likely this particular kind of sacrifice required an animal Was probably the equivalent of an ‘Olah (burnt offering) The nature of the offering Abel brought a firstborn Cain brought the ordinary Sheep in this era only for sacrifice, Not for food

Genesis 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

Genesis 4 Cane Kills Able The first recorded murder Family still living in the land of Eden Cane is banished by God to the East Nod = wandering, restless Were many people on earth by now Women not mentioned due to patriarchal society Likely more women than men

Genesis 4: And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

Genesis 4: And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Genesis 4: And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Genesis 4:15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Genesis 4: And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.

Genesis 4 I know a lot of folk who dwell in “the land of nod” when they are in church, but frankly, I do not know where the land of Nod really is. I have often wondered just where it is, and again, there is speculation about this. But we are told that Cain went out and dwelt in that area. J. Vernon McGee

Genesis 4 East of Eden A sign on Cane Could read that Cane was a sign Nod was to be Cane’s sanctuary Sanctuary was a place for a person who killed to go and be protected

Genesis 4: And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.

Genesis 4: And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. 22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

Jasher 5: And Noah was a just man, he was perfect in his generation, and the Lord chose him to raise up seed from his seed upon the face of the earth. 14 And the Lord said unto Noah, Take unto thee a wife, and beget children, for I have seen thee righteous before me in this generation.

Jasher 5: And thou shalt raise up seed, and thy children with thee, in the midst of the earth; and Noah went and took a wife, and he chose Naamah the daughter of Enoch, and she was five hundred and eighty years old. 16 And Noah was four hundred and ninety-eight years old, when he took Naamah for a wife.

Genesis 4:23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

Jasher 3: And Lamech was old and advanced in years, and his eyes were dim that he could not see, and Tubal Cain, his son, was leading him and it was one day that Lamech went into the field and Tubal Cain his son was with him, and whilst they were walking in the field, Cain the son of Adam advanced towards them; for Lamech was very old and could not see much, and Tubal Cain his son was very young. 27 And Tubal Cain told his father to draw his bow, and with the arrows he smote Cain, who was yet far off, and he slew him, for he appeared to them to be an animal. 28 And the arrows entered Cain's body although he was distant from them, and he fell to the ground and died.

Genesis 4:24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

Matthew 18: Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Forgive your brother 490 times (70 X 7 = 490)

Genesis 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

Genesis 4 Seth Shait Seth was the replacement son in the stead of Abel. Shait means, appointed

Genesis 4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Hebrews And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Hebrews 9-22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
