Imperialism in Southeast Asia Ch. 11 sec 5

Setting the stage: Just like in Africa, European nations competed to carve up Southeast Asia mostly the Pacific Rim countries that border the Pacific Ocean.

I. European Powers Invade the Pacific Rim A. Dutch Expand Control 1. The lands of Southeast Asia were perfect for plantation agriculture: sugar cane, coffee, cocoa, rubber, coconuts, bananas, and pineapples
