Freud presents.. Little Hans Emily Jane

When Little Hans was nearly three, he started to show a lively interest in his widldler. If you do that, I shall send for Doctor A. to cut off your widdler. …Castration complex… Han’s Mother Repressed sexual desire for his mother

Han’s parents I wish it was just mum and me on holiday again…

When Han’s was three and a half, his sister Hanna was born Han’s mother and Hanna I wish mum would let her go when she bathed her Han’s fears his mother will let him go.

Women don’t have widdlers so mum’s was cut off like mine will be The phobia of a white horse that would bite him began when Han’s was 4 ½. This was partly based on a real event of hearing a father tell his daughter that the white horse would bite if she touched it. You can’t touch white horses or they’ll bite, you can’t ask people to touch your widdler as it isn’t proper. Mum might leave me for asking.

Han’s then developed a fear of horses pulling heavily laden carts or a bus after he was walking with a mother and saw a horse pulling a bus fall down and kick its legs about. Han’s was scared at thought the horse was dead. Secretly wishes his father was dead ‘Lumf’ falling into the toilet and a horse falling makes a similar noise. I kick my feet when defecating. Babies are lumf like and a heavily laden cart’s like a pregnant women. Phobia keeps me at home with mum

Han’s dream In the night there was a big giraffe in the room and a crumpled one; and the big one called out because I took the crumpled one away from it. Then it stopped calling out; and then I sat on top of the crumpled one. Replay of what happened on recent mornings: Hans came into their bed in the morning, welcomed by his mother but his father would complain. Han’s stays a little while. In the night Hans experiences a longing for his mother and comes to see her for that reason.

I went with dad in the train and we smashed a window and the policeman took us off with him. Represents a wishing to do something forbidden with his mother that his father is also doing.

The Resolution I was in the bath, and then the plumber came and unscrewed it. Then he took a big borer and stuck it in me stomach Hans’ father interpreted this to mean ‘I was in bed with mummy. Then daddy came and sent me away. He pushed me away with his big penis.’

But soon.. Little Hans The plumber came and first he took away my behind with a pair of pincers, and then he gave me another, and then he did the same with my widdler. Presumably both were bigger, like his father’s. These fantasies show that he is now identifying with his father and wanting to be like him.

Hans’ parents explained to him where babies really came from and he stopped fearing the carts.

Hans’ father Are your (imaginary) children still alive? Boys can’t have children. I’m they’re daddy now. And you’re their granddaddy. Hans found a solution where his father was still part of the family and both were married to Hans’ mother.

Hans has overcome is Oedipus Complex and was able to identify with his father He fully overcame his phobias.
