PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS  We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now. “I've been studying English for four years."

 We can use it to refer to an action that has finished but you can still see evidence.  Actions that have been recently completed – the results of the actions are evident. Oh, the kitchen is a mess. Who has been cooking?

 It can refer to an action that has not finished.  Actions that started in the past and continue up to the present. I've been waiting for her for 30 minutes and she still hasn't arrived.

 It can refer to a series of actions.  To say how many times someone has done something at an indefinite time in the past. She's been writing to her best friend regularly for a couple of years.
