OGS OCOM-MOON application status and demo DORII AHM Stefano Salon and Giorgio Bolzon OGS June 29 th 2010, EUCENTRE, Pavia

Outlines OGS application in DORII Status Demos

The OGS application in DORII Environmental community: Oceanographic and coastal observation and modelling Mediterranean ocean observing network (OCOM-MOON) numerical module: OPATM-BFM  parallel off-line coupled 3D physical- biogeochemical model for MedSea developed under MERSEA-IP observational module:  MedARGO APEX FLOATS managed by OGS  sensors on board: Sea-Bird CTD (  T, S, p, Lon, Lat, time)  INGV MFS circulation model physical forcings (u, T, S, K V, wind, IRR…) data OPATM-BFM (MPI on 32 PEs) float

...it was not our glider  …

Status (1) – tasks list Task 1 – computational module completion Task 2 – computational module improvement with workflow (with visualization) Task 3 – visualization via vcr-gvid Task 4 – visualise float positions via app. manager Task 5 – plan glider mission via app. manager (withdrawn due to glider lost) Task 6 – user training, documentation Task 7 – evaluation

Status (2) – open issues WfMS: minor improvements on Event Log Table (Szymon, Kasia) (solved during AHM) WfMS: model jobs seem “frozen” and do not finish (Szymon)  proxy expiration… computational time is too long because of the slowness of the computation itself or because of the queuing (solved during AHM) WfMS: visualization wf seems too slow (Szymon) (solved during AHM) Gvid Visualization: elimination of small inaccuracies in the variables rendering (Christof) VCR: integration of Gvid on OGS-VCR (Giorgio, Andrea) LFC: only 26 files can be listed… VCR: tiny improvements on Application Manager for floats (Giorgio)

Hypothetic scenarios for evaluation 1. OPATM-BFM model simulation - via WfMS, user selects a specific input date (range Jan – Jun 2010), chooses output folder, n°of steps and submits the simulation 2. Visualization of model output - via WfMS or VCR, user selects biogeochemical variable to be analysed using GVid 3. Floats data interaction – via Application Manager, user analyses the status of floats in the Mediterranean Sea, looks for one particular float and execute some operations on the data: single (1 cycle) and historical (range of cycles) profiles of Temperature and Salinity, saving of single profile, inspection of technical data, trajectory visualization by Google Earth…

Demos Model submission Model output visualization via AppMan/WfMS Float data analysis via Application Manager (e.g. in the red area)
