Experiment Set Up q” TC-3TC-4 TC-2 TC-1 Light source Concrete slab HFS Terminology: TC-1: Exterior air Temperature TC-2: Exterior Surface Temperature of concrete slab TC-3: Interior Surface Temperature of concrete slab TC-4: Interior air Temperature HFS : Heat flux sensor ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO2

Remote access ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO3 internet AgilentExperiment setup Computer for experiment Computer for remote control Thermal couples and heat flux sensor

Data aquisition The temperature data and heat flux data are acquired through Agilent. Temperature can be read in Celsius. Heat flux is read in Voltage and need to be transferred into W/m 2 by data calibration ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO4

Data calibration Calibrate the heat flux with the following equation: q’’= *ln(V) Where V (in volt) is the voltage read by Agilent q’’(in W/m 2 ) is the heat flux ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO5

Heat Transfer Coefficient The heat transfer coefficient is used in calculating the heat transfer, typically by convection or phase change between a fluid and a solid. Formula: Units : W/(m 2- K) ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO6

Thermal Conductivity Defined as the property of a material that indicates its ability to conduct heat Formula: Units: W/(m-K) ENTC 370PROF. ALVARADO7
