MLA Workshop

What is it good for!?  Absolutely nothing!  Prior knowledge of citation?  Content/subject areas  Why to use it?  Importance of language  Importance of respect  How!?

MLA is more than a format!   About the MLA: Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy. MLA members host an annual convention and other meetings, work with related organizations, and sustain one of the finest publishing programs in the humanities. For more than a century, members have worked to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature.

Resources for you!  Purdue University: West Lafayette, Indiana  Online Writing Lab at Purdue University (OWL)

The Basics  In-Text Citations  Inside the body of your writing (usually in body paragraphs)  Helps to delineate your ideas and the ideas you’re using from other people to support your ideas  Works Cited Entries  On a separate page at the end of your writing  An actual resource for you and other people to use to find the ideas you presented in your writing  Used for extension studies on the same topic
