Pacific Collegiate School History Department Style Guide Section Six: MLA Formatting How to make a header using Word?

6.1 What is MLA? MLA stands for Modern Language Association. The MLA is an organization of scholars who specialize in language and literature. “MLA Style” or “MLA Format” is the collection of guidelines established by these scholars. These guidelines are intended for use in scholarly papers. For the full details of MLA Format, see the most copy of the MLA Style Manual.

6.2: Basics of MLA Style 8 ½ by 11 white paper Clear, simple fonts (preferably Times New Roman) 1 inch margins on all four sides of the page Double-space 12 pt font At the top right corner of each page, a header with your last name and the page number of each page.

6.3: Title Pages If your teacher asks you to include a formal title page for your paper, this page should include: The title of the paper, centered, just a little above the middle of the page. 2) Centered, at the bottom of the page, the following four (double-spaced) lines: your name 2) the teacher’s name 3) the class name the date

6.4: Page One Heading If your paper does not have a formal title page, your first page should have the following heading: Double-spaced, at the top left corner, 1) your name 2) the teacher’s name 3) the class name 4) the date And then, centered, the title of the paper, followed, one line below, with the paper’s first sentence.
