Read the following… 1835, Alcalde Vicente Córdova had started to plan and organize local resistance, anticipating Texas would declare independence from Mexico. Most of the Mexicans living in Nacogdoches at this time were loyal to Mexico and many people from the United States were moving to the area as well. President Lamar did not trust the Indians and the Indians were angry at Texas for not giving them title to their land. In the late summer of 1838, word arrived from several sources that Mexico was seeking an arrangement with the Cherokees which would give them title to their land in exchange for assistance in joining a war of extermination against the Republic of Texas. Late in the summer of 1838 in Nacogdoches, a group of Mexicans and Native Americans planned a resistance against the Republic of Texas. This eventually became known as the Cordova Rebellion. After the rebellion, 33 rebels with Spanish surnames were arrested for Treason. The Cherokee War & removal of Indians began shortly after..

Answer the following questions in complete sentences… 1.When and where did the Cordova Rebellion occur? 2.Who were the two sides in the rebellion? 3.What did the Mexican government promise the Native Americans for their assistance? 4.Why did the Cordova Rebellion occur?
