MLA Citations Mrs. Weser PC101

Why are citations important? Give credit Retrace your steps For others Avoid plagiarism

Internal and Works Cited There are 2 parts of a citation In-text (parenthetical) Works Cited In-text citations occur within the writing on your paper (Weser 47). Immediately following a quotation from a source or a paraphrase of a source's ideas, you place the authors name followed by a space and the relevant page number(s). Your in-text citation will correspond with an entry in your Works Cited page

Works Cited Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your paper. Use the same 1 inch margin and last name, page number header as the rest of your paper. Label the page Works Cited (do not underline or put in quotes), centered at the top of the page

Works Cited Double Space all citations, but do not skip space between entries Use a hanging indent Capitalize each word in the titles of articles, books, etc, but don’t capitalize articles, short prepositions or conjunctions unless one is the first word in a title. Use italics or underlining for titles of larger works (books, magazines) and quotation marks for titles of shorter works (poems, articles)

Works Cited Entries are listed in alphabetical order by author name. Author names are written last name, first name Do not list titles (Dr., Mr. Saint) or degrees (PhD, MA, DDS) with the names. Do include suffixes like Jr., or II
