HOT ISSUES TWO EXTRA SICK DAYS: To get the 2 extra sick days every year you need to use 120 hours of sick in a fiscal year. Then fill out a leave slip in the uncertified sick line up the dates and times you took. Fill in the section the starts For all other leave types give reasons……in this section writer the following As per Article 31.01(b) I am requesting the hours of sick leave be credited to my account. Grievances- Anything in the collective agreement can be grieved. You have 25 days from the date of knowledge that something was done wrong to put in a grievance. You need to see Tammy Elliot to submit a grievance. Once it has been submitted it will be sent to the HR department to be given a grievance number. Once it has a number HR will forward to the appropriate Correctional Manager. The CM will have ten days to answer the grievance and if the answer is not satisfactory than we have 10 days to move the grievance

HOT ISSUES If the CM does not respond at all by the 15 th day then we can move the grievance to the next level. At the second level the grievance can be put in abeyance (on hold ) until the next grievance committee meeting. This means that the time frames stop until the next grievance committee meeting and when this grievance is dealt with at the meeting then the time frames start again. Which are, management has 10 days to reply to us and if the answer again is not satisfactory than we have 10 days move it to the final level. If they do not respond at all in 15 days then have 10 days to move the grievance to the final level. At the final level NHQ will normal reply to the grievance in 30 days. If there is no response after 30 day or the response is not satisfactory than an application for adjudication needs to be filled out. We have 40 days to submit this. A Form 20 need to be filled out if the grievance is from the contract and a Form 21 needs to be filled out if it is monetary or termination.

MEETING UPDATES Labour Management Meeting March 4, Tables in inmate dining hall – This was discussed at the construction meeting March 7, Warden supports securing tables. -Mirrors in Principal Entrance – Mirror will be ordered for principal entrance so that the officer posted there has a better visual. -Doors and Windows in 13 Man unit – Michelle Vermette to speak to Works about making the windows bigger in the cell doors. Response by March 25, Maintaining Cell Standards – Each search of a cell is to be completed with the cell effects sheet and if it is not on there then it is to be taken. All officers are to get OMSR so that we can print off the cell effects sheets. -Institutional Count and Rounds – Every round that is over 1 hr by 60 sec is going to be considered late and every round that is over by more than 30 mins is going to be considered missed. The Warden has no problem with us doing staggered as long as they do not go over the 60 min.

ACHIEVEMENTS Two officers at Bath recently took an overnight escort and when they returned they were told that they could not be reimbursed for there out of pocket expenses because of a NHQ spending freeze. Colin spoke to the Regional President and the Deputy Commissioner about this issue. When Colin spoke to the Deputy Warden the next day he had a change of heart and they will be paid for their expenses. In the future if anyone is asked to take an overnight escort then you should fill out a Travel Authority and Advance form gc72. CSC should be making the hotel arrangements with their credit card, but if they do not then phone a hotel in the area you are going to and get the government rate and mark it on you Travel Authority and Advance. When filling out this form do not forget to include meals and incidentals. The rates are as follows Breakfast $14.80, Lunch $13.90, Supper $39.20 and incidentals $ per day. When you have this completed personally walk it over to the Deputy Warden or Warden and have them sign it. If they refuse then tell them that you are not going to take the escort. If they sign it then walk it to finance and have them process it and tell them what day you need it for. When you return from the escort fill out the Record of Travel form gc 74 and Travel Expense Claim form gc73 attach all receipts and the Travel Authority and Advance and submit to finance.
