Encourage diligence in your Read the Bible Through in a Year Today’s reading Exodus So far this year: Genesis & Job At this point in our reading, we have been introduced to most of the foundational biblical concepts and the source scriptures of most biblical doctrines found in the New Testament…details will follow.

Tonight I want to teach on consequences. Causes and effects. Causes things we do. Effects the results of the causes. Hebrew parallels, another trip through familiar territory to deepen our understanding of the full message.

Note The written word of God, (scripture=that which is written), is a grace gift designed to impart God’s influence to individuals and to that collection of people scripturally called: children of Abraham, the ‘called out’ (translated Israel in the OT, church in the NT), God’s covenant possession.

We are most influenced by the things we give the most attention. Out dominate influence will come from the source of our dominant attentiveness.

What difference does a lack of consistent consciousness causing exposure to the Word of God make to us?

Isaiah 5:13 Therefore my people go into exile for want of knowledge; their honored men are dying of hunger, and their multitude is parched with thirst. 14 Therefore Sheol has enlarged its appetite and opened its mouth beyond measure, and the nobility of Jerusalem and her multitude go down, her throng and he who exults in her.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God I also will forget your children.

Hosea 4:6 My people (God’s people) are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected (a choice) knowledge, I reject (choice) you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten (come away from the influence of) the law (teaching-torah) of your God (the covenant, I will be your God and you shall be my people), I also will forget your children.

Lack of knowledge as a cause! Hosea 4:6 My people (God’s people) are destroyed for lack of knowledge; This message is addressed to God’s people. Destruction as the effect of the cause.

Hosea 4:6 My people (God’s people) are destroyed for lack of knowledge; (why is this so?) because you have rejected (a choice) knowledge, Lack of knowledge is destructive to God’s people. Lack of knowledge is a choice to those of us who have bibles and can read. Lack of knowledge and its destructiveness is self-induced.

Lack of knowledge is a choice to reject the grace- offer not to come under the influence of God through deliberate attentiveness. Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my own possession among all peoples; for all the earth is mine, 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."

Hosea 4:6 My people (God’s people) are destroyed for lack of knowledge ; because you have rejected (a choice) knowledge, I reject (choice) you from being a priest to me. God makes choices too! Functioning priesthood was the intention of the call to of Abraham, (Gen 12:3) and for the sons of Abraham as the people of God. (Gen 22:18) See Malachi 2:4-7 for a definition of priesthood I.e. we lose the identity for which God made us!

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God I also will forget your children. Meaning of your children.. biological? Influence? Jonah’s unfaithfulness

God’s will for your children Isaiah 59:21 "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD: my Spirit which is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your children, or out of the mouth of your children's children, says the LORD, from this time forth and for evermore."
