ICEL DAILY CLEANSING 1 John 1:5 - 2:2

ICEL 1 John 1:5 - 2:2 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all [b] sin.b 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

ICEL 1 John 1:5 - 2:2 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. 2 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

ICEL 1. We all need cleansing God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. (1:5) If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie (1:6) If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1:8) If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar (1:10) Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts; see if there is any wicked way in me (Psalm 139:23-24)

ICEL 2. We can be sure of this cleansing, if we confess our sins. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1:9) Take words with you and return to the L ORD. Say to him: ‘Forgive all our sins.’ (Hosea 14:2) Confess your sins to each other (James 5:16)

ICEL 3. God forgives us on the basis of justice. Satan, … the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. (Revelation 12:9- 10) If anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. (2:1-2a) He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. (1:9)

ICEL 4. God cleanses us from our sin so that we won’t start over again. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. (2:1) Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them finds mercy. (Proverbs 28:13)

ICEL 5. This cleansing enables us to be useful to the Lord. Those who cleanse themselves from this corruption will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master. (2Timothy 2:21)
