Living Waters Wednesday Teaching C. Holoman-6 October 22, 2008

3 songs used as part of the Feast of Booths

THEN SHALL THE VIRGIN Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old men together. Lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai. Lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai lai.

And I will turn their mourning into joy, And I will answer them. And make them rejoice, rejoice, rejoice with gladness.

I PRAISE YOU How I praise You, praise You, Lord; Rock of my salvation. You I praise from shore the shore; in all Your creation.

Let it ring from mountain tops, and let my voice proclaim, the tender mercies of my Lord, Yeshua is His name.

Messiah of Israel is He, Restorer of our nation. The hope of David now we see, bringing us salvation.

Let it ring from mountain tops, and let my voice proclaim, the tender mercies of my Lord, Yeshua is His name.

I WILL DANCE FOR YOU (EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE) I will dance for you, sing for you, lift my hands in praise to You. These are expressions of my love.

Worship and magnify your Name, seek Your face and in Your presence remain; All of these things I do unto You. These are expressions of my love.

Leviticus 23:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Say to the people of Israel, The appointed feasts of the LORD which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, my appointed feasts, are these. 3 Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings.

‘The Smooth Stones Exercise’ from the Feast of Trumpets

Feast of Trumpets (1 st of the 7 th Sabbath month) {new moon} Day of Atonement (10th of the 7 th Sabbath month) Feast of Booth / Tabernacles (15th of the 7 th Sabbath month) {full moon, like Passover}

Leviticus 23:39 "On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall keep the feast of the LORD seven days; on the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. 40 And you shall take on the first day the fruit of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. 41 You shall keep it as a feast to the LORD seven days in the year; it is a statute for ever throughout your generations; you shall keep it in the seventh month.

Isaiah 12:1 You will say in that day: "I will give thanks to thee, O LORD, for though thou wast angry with me, thy anger turned away, and thou didst comfort me. 2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation." 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say in that day: "Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name; make known his deeds among the nations, proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 "Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. 6 Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel."

Feast the word, Hagg festival, feast, a circling dance. celebrate, worship… to draw a circle (as to organize time in the circle of the year)

(One of the readings for Sukkoth) Psalm 27:5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent (sukkoth), he will set me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD.

The Festive Shout

Psalm 42:4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I went with the throng, and led them in procession (dance) to the house of God, with glad shouts (callings, sound-noise) and songs of thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.

Psalm 89:15 Blessed are the people who know (yada) the festal shout (‘glory’:loud sound, blowing), who walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance, (note Hebrew parallelism)

Psalm 29:9 The voice of the LORD makes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forests bare; and in his temple all cry, "Glory!" This a response to versus Read.

Psalm 33:1 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. 2 Praise the LORD with the lyre, make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! 3 Sing to him a new song, play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts (shouting, blowing).

Psalm 27:6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. Jonah 2:9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to thee; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the LORD!" 10 And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah..

Lights, a festival theme

At the time of Jesus… There were four (4) golden menorahs- lampstands each about 75 feet tall, with four (4) bowls each. Against them rested four (4) ladders. Four (4) youth of priestly descent each with a pitcher of oil fill the bowls. The old worn breeches of the priests served as wicks to the lamps. There was not a court in Jerusalem that was not filled with light.

The dark sky at that time was not the grey of today’s light pollution, it was really dark, no streetlights…only the brilliant glow of the full moon of Sukkoth-the Feast of Booths. And the city of Jerusalem was bathed in an almost shekinah- like glory from the four menorahs.

Into this light at the Feast of Booths in (John 8:12,) “ Jesus said.., I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” The context of this revelation of His glory was without doubt the special illumination of the Temple during the Feast of Booths.

Ancient writings of this period say.. “ The Hasidim (holy ones) and ‘the men of Deed’ danced before the people with flaming torches in their hands reciting words of song and praise. Levities worshiped with harps, liars, cymbals, trumpets and instruments without number.”

“At first only the great scholars, members of the Sanhedrin, elders and men distinguished for their piety — only these danced in the Temple itself.” Ancient writings say that “he who has not seen the rejoicing of Succoth has never seen rejoicing in his life time.”
