Introduction The Greek word chairō, occurring 74x in the NT, means  to rejoice,  to be delighted,  to be glad,  to be in a state of happiness and well-being,  to be well,  to thrive, etc.

Joy in Christ Jesus Many rejoice because of His birth and incarnation (Matt. 2:10-11; Luke 1:13-14, 26-28). Many rejoice because of His ministry and message (Luke 19:1-10, esp. vs. 6; John 3:25-30, esp. vs. 29). Many rejoice because of His miracles and wonders (Luke 13:10-17, esp. vs. 17; 19:37-38; John 11:11-15).

Joy in Christ Jesus Many rejoice because of His promise and purpose (John 8:56-58; Rev. 19:6-7). Many rejoice because of His resurrection and ascension (John 14:25-31; 16:19-22; 20:19-20).

The Joy of Salvation There is joy in conversion (Luke 10:17-20; Acts 8:35- 39; 11:21-24). There is joy in restoration (Matt. 18:12-14; Luke 15:1- 7, 11-32; 2 Cor. 2:1-4; 7:5-16).

Sinful joy was manifested at the persecution of saints (Rev. 11:1-13, esp. vs. 10). Sinful joy is manifested at the betrayal of the cause (2 John 7-11; cf. Ps. 129:5-8).
