Tools Tools are defined as all tools or equipment carried by the fire department except for hose, ladders, and the fire apparatus.

Five categories of tools A.Hose: Those tools that are used in conjunction with hose and pumping apparatus. 1. Rope hose tool 2. Wrenches a. Spanner wrenches b. Hydrant wrenches

Five categories of tools 3. Clamps 4. Hose jacket 5. Rollers B. Forcible entry: Those tools that are used when it is necessary to force an opening that is locked, blocked, or where none exists.

General safety rules A.Use the right tool for the job B.Use the tool properly C.Maintain the tool properly D.Carry the tool properly E.Clear the area of unnecessary personnel when using sharp, pointed, or power tools

General safety rules F. Clear the area of as many obstructions as possible G. Always wear complete protective clothing

Accountability of tools A.All tools should be accounted for and in the proper locations B.Report any problems or missing tools as soon as possible C.Inventory on a regular basis D.Fix or replace tools as soon as possible

Conclusion: Tools are of no use if left on the apparatus. Bring a tool with you. You’ll never know when you may need it.
