Misplaced Modifiers A modifier is a word or group of words that describes or gives more detail about other words in a sentence. Example: The girl in blue is the one who went to the dance. A misplaced modifier is a modifier that is in the wrong place. This can make the sentence awkward, confusing, or funny. Example: The girl is the one who went to the dance in blue.
