Urinary System By: Jaquelin, Melanie, Kathy, and Daniela

Basic Function The basic function of the urinary system is to get rid of all the waste in the bladder. It produces, stores, and eliminates urine.

How the Urinary System Works The kidneys make urine by filtering wastes and extra water from blood. Urine travels from the kidney through two thin tubes called ureters and fills the bladder. When the bladder is full a person gets rid of the waste through the urethra.

Orga ns The primary organs of the urinary system are the kidneys, the ureters, the bladder, and the urethra. The kidneys remove urea, waste produced from the breakdown of the proteins, from the blood. The ureters tighten and relax to force urine away from the kidneys. The bladder stores the urine until the brain signals the bladder that the person is ready to empty it. The urethra is the tube that allows urine to flow out of the body.
