Presentation transcript:

The future of NOW: technology and learning  Self-directed learning increases  As belts tighten, marginal topics will not be taught, learners must take responsibility for self-learning  E-learning 2.0 grows, but not strategically for most of us  Especially a rapid growth of wikis for in-house content  Growth in social network-based learning  “Social Homework” sites on the rise  Cramster, Grokit, TurtorVista, English Café etc, put pressure on business to learn likewise

The future of NOW: technology and learning  Less training and more performance support in the form of toolkits  Teach me less about communication and give me more templates for key communication points  Virtual classroom is priced the same as stand up as it is valued more equally  More learning via wikis and web pages, creating mentoring communities, where the learners take responsibility for content and teaching

The future of NOW: technology and learning  Some growth in mobile learning  3.3 billion mobile subscribers by 2010  Real-time polls  Job aids, quick reference on iPhone, etc.  Podcasts/Vidcasts  Mobile apps for performance For example, Sales Challenge Scoreboard

The future of NOW: technology and learning  Micro-Virtual conferences  More targeted, deeper, but shorter  Learning nuggets  JIT training, created on the fly and archived  Immersive learning (simulations and blended)  See for Gen Y UPS driver training
