Jumpology (jumping photos) show the beauty of the human spirit in mid-air! A photographer from the 40’s and 50’s, Philippe Halsman made jumping on photos popular. He said, “When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of mumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.” In other words – people will show their true personalities. Do you agree?

Tips for successful jumping photos 1.If you shoot from a lower angle, it will appear as though there is more space between the subject and the ground. 1.Remind your model to relax their face. A lot of times when people jump, they tighten their faces. Or, you can make them laugh – laughing and jumping go well together 2.Yes, you can jump straight up, but what if your model tried to create a shape with their body? 3.Use the continuous burst mode on your camera so that you can take several images while holding down the shutter button down. You can also use a fast shutter speed (for you camera whizzes) or simply use the sports mode. 4.Don’t “count down” for your model. Let them do their own counting so that they are fully ready. Ask them to count out loud so that you can be prepared, too! 5.Shoot in a good amount of light. Dark spaces will have your subject appear more blurry. NO BLURRY SUBJECTS, PLEASE! 6.If you are using a phone to take photos, make sure that the photo is actually taken when you press the shutter or if it takes the photo when you release the button. 7.Set up your shot! The more creative, the better!!
