Henry VIII remains one of the most prominent leaders of all time. People said he was a very handsome boy. As a young man he was both athletic and intellectual. As a seasoned King he became despotic and was corrupted by his own power.

Henry VIII was one of the most famous English kings. In 1509 he became king at the ago of 18, and reigned for 38 years. He was mainly famous for having six wives.

There were six of them - three Katherines, two Annes, and a Jane. One of them was the King's wife for twenty-four years, another for only a year and a half. One died, two were divorced, and two were beheaded. It was a dangerous, uncertain life. After the King's death in 1547, his sixth wife finds a box of old letters - one from each of the first five wives. They are sad, angry, frightened letters. They tell the story of what it was like to be the wife of Henry VIII of England.

Henry VIII's first wife - Queen Catharine of Aragon. She has been married to Arthur, senior brother Henry VIII before his death. Henry’s third wife was Jane Seymour. Henry married her in a week after execution of the previous wife. Queen Jane Seymour succeeded in giving birth to an heir to the crown — Prince Edward. Unfortunately, the Queen died a few days after childbirth from an infection. Their son

Edward became a king at the age of nine after his father’s death. He liked to read. He could write Greece. He was very sickly and died when he was 16.

The king was looking for a new wife again. His advisers suggested Anne of Cleves from Holland. Holbein, the painter, painted a picture of Anne especially for Henry. The picture was very nice, but when Anne arrived in England, she turned out to be extremely ugly. Very soon the king decided on their separation.

He next woman in the king’s life was Catherine Howard. Catherine Howard was the niece of powerful duke of Norfolk and a cousin of Anna Boleyn. Like Anne Boleyn, she was also accused of love affairs with other men and beheaded according to Henry’s order.

Queen Katherine Parr was the only one of Henry VIII's wives who survived him. A well- educated lady, and a excellent writer with a keen intelligence and solid moral fiber, she was the Queen to outlast the intrigues of court, the bad temper of the King, and the general rigors of court life. She was a sweet-tempered, kind person, and the children of King Henry VIII loved her. After Henry's death she has married to Thomas Seymour, the brother of Jane Seymour.
