Conductors vs. Insulators

Based on the information in the chart, what other material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber I notice that the materials on the left side of the chart are metals. Metals are good conductors of both electricity and heat. Conductors move energy from place to place. Electricity and heat both flow (move) easily through metals.

Based on the information in the chart, what other material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber I also notice that the materials on the right side of the chart are not metals. These materials are good insulators of electricity. They can also insulate heat. Insulators prevent (stop) or slow down the flow of electricity or heat from place to place.

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber A. Drinking straw B. Pencil C. Penny D. Rubber band What are my choices?

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber C. Penny I choose… There is only one metal on the list.

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber C. Penny Correct! A penny is made from copper. The chart shows that copper conducts electricity.

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber A. Drinking straw Incorrect. A drinking straw is made from plastic or paper. The chart shows that these materials do not conduct electricity. Plastic and paper are insulators.

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber B. Pencil Incorrect. A pencil is made from wood or plastic. The chart shows that neither wood nor plastic conducts electricity. Instead, wood and plastic insulate electricity.

Based on the information in the chart, what material will most likely conduct electricity? Conducts Electricity Insulates Electricity Copper Aluminum Gold Wood Plastic Rubber D. Rubber band Incorrect. A rubber band is made from rubber. The chart shows that rubber does not conduct electricity. Rubber is an insulator.

Think About It… Name some ways conductors and insulators are used in your everyday life.
