Our Commitment Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to preparing students to be knowledgeable, responsible citizens whose words and actions reflect an understanding of the fundamental values and principles of the American constitutional democracy. The District’s commitment includes providing eligible students with the opportunity to register to vote.

Our Proven Results The Department of Social Sciences has coordinated student voter registration in the District’s senior high schools since the program was first initiated during the school year. Since the program’s inception, over 324,000 students have been registered to vote.

The Voter Registration Process (continued) Schools will hold the voter registration drive Voter Registration Conducted at All Senior High Schools Monday, April 29 – and ending Wednesday, May 8, 2013 Seniors in American Government and Economics courses will be the target audience. Schools are also encouraged to register age-eligible underclassmen.

The Voter Registration Process (continued) The Voter Registration contact person is responsible for: 1. counting the completed voter registration cards; 2. posting the school’s results online at the Social Sciences website; and 3. returning the cards to the Miami-Dade County Elections Office, 2700 N.W. 87 Avenue, Doral, Florida

School Registration Goal The 2013 student voter registration goal for each school is based on the number of students registered in The 2013 goal is listed on the label of each envelope and schools are challenged to exceed the goal!

Student Eligibility In order to register to vote a student must be:  at least 17 years of age by May 15, 2013 (born on or before, May 15, 1996);  a citizen of the United States; and  Resident of dade county. Other factors that may prevent a student from registering to vote include: prior registration religious belief If you are a convicted felon, and your rights relating to voting have not been restored, then you cannot register to vote. If you have been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting and your competency has not been restored, then you cannot register to vote.

Responsibilities of Voter Registration Contact Person Conducting the Voter Registration Drive Work with school staff to make all necessary logistical arrangements for the drive; Register students; Count the total number of cards completed during the drive; Complete the on-line voter registration report for the school at the Social Sciences/Life Skills website; and Deliver the completed voter registration cards immediately following the drive to the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, 2700 N.W. 87 Avenue, Doral, Florida
