TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC Calendar Of Events FALL 2014 Brazilian Jazz Exchange Residency Co-sponsored by Texas Southern University COLABS and Department of Music, NOLA Arts House Music and New Orleans Center for the Gulf South at Tulane University September 10 th – 10:00a.m. Lecture/ Panel Rhinehart Auditorium A discussion of the Brazil Arts and Cultural Exchange 2014 and its importance will be held before an audience consisting of TSU students and faculty. Guest Brazilian musicians and scholars will discuss the Exchange program, Brazilian music styles, and cultural influences. September 11 th – 11:00 a.m. Masterclass Rhinehart Auditorium American Jazz and Brazilian Jazz styles will be explored. Led by and Horace Alexander Young, TSU students will participate in a guided session with Brazilian musicians, Hotencio Silva, Fabricio Anderson, Lemos de Sousa, Ferriera de Oliveira, Marco Queiroz, in an open session designed to acquaint students on the stylistic influences of both Brazilian and American Jazz and how they intersect.
