13 Jeremiah the “Prophet” Jeremiah was a “prophet” (1:5-7) A “prophet” was a spokesman; a mouthpiece for God, guided by the Holy Spirit (Ex. 4:11-16; Deut. 18:15,18; Act. 28:25). A “prophet” called God’s people back to God’s law and covenant (2 Kings 17:13; Jer. 11:1-2, 7-8; 25:3-4).

14 Jeremiah the Man We know more about Jeremiah the prophet than any other prophet in the Old Testament Jeremiah had to learn to go when commissioned (1:6) Jeremiah was “the weeping prophet” who had a broken heart for the sins of his people (4:19-20; 8:21-22; 9:1; 13:17; 23:9)

15 Jeremiah the Man Jeremiah persevered under difficult circumstances: when despised-persecuted (11:18-23; 12:6; 18:11-12, 15-17; 19:14-15: 20:1-6; 26:1-13; 37:11-15, ( Benjamin slide ) 37:16-21.

19 Jeremiah the Man Jeremiah 20:1-2 (KJV) 1 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.
