Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior “Isaiah was the principal Old Testament prophet who prophesied of the coming of the Messiah” (James E. Faust, “The Keystone of Our Religion”, Ensign and Liahona, Jan. 2004, 5).

Isaiah’s prophecies were meant to help Israel better understand the mission of the promised Messiah. Many of the prophecies were about the Savior’s mortal ministry. Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior

Read Isaiah 11:2; 50:4; 61:1 and identify what Isaiah’s prophecies teach about the Savior and His Mission. Consider how the pictures are examples of what is taught in each verse. Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior Isaiah 11:2Isaiah 50:4Isaiah 61:1

The Savior would be a preacher from God. He would have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, and would bring the people hope. Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior Isaiah 11:2Isaiah 50:4Isaiah 61:1

Read Isaiah 9:1–2 and identify the location of the Savior’s ministry. These verses are better understood by knowing the geography familiar to Isaiah. Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior

When Israel entered the promised land, each tribe was assigned a portion of land. Zebulon and Naphtali were given land in the northern region. Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior

Isaiah described a “great light” being seen among the people in this region. During the Savior’s life, this area was known as Galilee. (See Matthew 4:12–23 for a better understanding of Isaiah’s prophecy.) Galilee Region Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior

Read Isaiah 50:5–6 and 53:3–4 and identify how people would react to the Savior’s ministry. Isaiah 50:5–6Isaiah 53:3–4 Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior

The Savior would willingly obey the Father and allow Himself to suffer persecution. He would be “despised and rejected,” and people would consider Him to be “stricken” and “smitten” by God. Isaiah 50:5–6Isaiah 53:3–4 Isaiah’s Teachings about the Savior
