It was bound to happen, this is the point where you have to start taking notes. Take out your notebooks.

Solomon’s Death and Succession Died of natural causes around the age of 80 His son, Rehoboam succeeded him as king Ten of the Twelve tribes refused to accept him as king Jeroboam became king of the Ten Northern Tribes Rehoboam continued to reign in the Southern Two Kingdoms

The Divided Kingdom The Northern Kingdom = Israel The Southern Kingdom = Judah Different kings for each kingdom Fought off invaders Many power struggles between the two kingdoms

Once a United Family God’s messengers, the prophets, reminded the people that they were once united If they continued to insist on division doom lay ahead Political dangers Cultural dangers

Prophets Spoke the message of God to the people Reminded the people of their past Warned them of the dangers of sin Encouraged the people to have strong faith

Prophetic Literature Named after the prophet Story and/or speeches made by that prophet Foretold the destruction of Israel at the hands of the Assyrians Presented the people with tough decisions

Prophecy The words of God, delivered through a spokesperson known as a prophet; generally calls for the Israelites to live justly and avoid idolatry

Prophets Most were men, but some were women Communicates God’s message to the people NOT like modern-day fortune tellers God revealed His message to them through revelation and religious experience Predictions depended on whether the people heeded God’s warning Israel was successful when it listened!!!!
