Part 1 of 5 The Reality, The Experiment, The Findings, The Implications This portion of the presentation is a layman’s look into a very real purpose of CERN.

The Search for Dark Matter Understanding Matter The Atom The Questions The Higgs Field Contents

To understand CERN’s search for an illusive force, you must know a little about two key components; matter and anti-matter. This presentation will take place in five (5) parts. Part one will cover matter and the Higgs Field; the basis for understanding the motives of CERN.

Understanding Matter Matter is the collection of particles that form the substance of the reality we are familiar with. One of the smallest components of all matter you are familiar with is the Atom. Atoms are the basis of all physical matter such as water (Hydrogen and Oxygen Atoms) and other physical elements such as wood, fire, air, and even people. In short, the world you see is composed of countless Atoms arranged in a diversity of ways that we call reality. Electron Nucleus

The Atom The Atom contains several components Electrons Quarks Neutrons Protons Force elements The understanding of Atom and its components have shaped the Sciences we have today. Electron Nucleus

The Atom By understanding the elements of an atom we can now control electrons and protons; causing them to move or flow from one location to another. This is the basis for electronics (controlling the movement and speed of electrons/protons between two points). By understanding the remaining components of an Atom, we have been able to harness forces, such as the Nuclear Bomb. What happens when all components are known? Electron Nucleus

The Questions What is responsible for the delicate arrangement of Atoms and their components? What force exist between the seen and unseen? What will happen when we have an understanding of the fundamental components within the forces and particles we already know? And so begins the search for an illusive field and set of particles which cannot be seen; a collection of strange matter and forces responsible for what exists and beyond. The Search for the Higgs Field and Dark matter. Electron Nucleus

The god particles or Higgs Boson, theorized in 1964 by several scientists including Peter Higgs, suggests that an invisible energy field somehow turned on and filled the Universe at the beginning of everything (big-bang). It was responsible for some fundamental particles taking on mass (electrons) and others not being affected at all (photons or light). This selection process is thought to have arranged the reality we know today Higgs and his collaborators suggested that evidence of this field could be found in a particle accelerator. The Higgs Field Continues with Part 2 (Dark matter)

Finding the force in the form of a particle was a milestone in understanding the components involved in all reality. Most importantly; finding the Higgs field allows Science to efficiently harness what cannot be seen. I am speaking of the more chaotic twin of matter itself which is called anti-matter.
