Do Now: Based on the events of Act 3, who has Hamlet become?

  Claudius confesses!  For what two things did Claudius commit his sin?  Does he feel bad for his sins?  “It hath the primal eldest curse upon’t”  A reference to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel. “A brother’s murder!”

  Hamlet hesitates!  After having the play confirm his suspicions, why does Hamlet hesitate to kill Claudius when he finds him alone and kneeling? What is he waiting for? “And now I’ll do’t”

  Hamlet begins by berating his mother.  This scene has long been linked to Hamlet’s Oedipal Complex.  Hamlet hesitates to kill Claudius and then walks into Gertrude’s bedroom. Why does Hamlet immediately jump to murder the “Claudius” behind the curtain?  What is Hamlet’s reaction to killing Polonius? “Mother, you have my father much offended.”

 “Oh, I am slain.”

 “Is it the King?”
