Welsh Bac update There are approximately 50,000 Welsh Baccalaureate learners at all levels at the moment. (Sept 2010) There are 214 centres approved to deliver the WBQ from September 2010, of these, 172 are schools, 22 are FEIs, 18 are training organisations and 2 PRUs.

Principal Learning Qualifications in Wales Available at levels 1, 2 & 3 Can only be taken within the options of the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification and must be accompanied by the Project Qualification

‘Size’ of Principal Learning and Project Qualifications Principal Learning Level 1 = 240 GLH 50% of which must be applied learning Foundation Project = 60 GLH Principal Learning level 2 = 420 GLH 50% of which must be applied learning Higher Project = 60 GLH Principal Learning [level 3] = 540 GLH 50% of which must be applied learning Extended Project = 120 GLH

Support from Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) Secure support from employers for these new qualifications Provide examples of good practice Alongside Awarding Organisations, publicise the WBQ and new Principal Learning qualifications to young people, parents and employers.

Careers Wales / EBPs Brokering employer engagement including CPD Mechanisms for coordinating links and activities involving schools/colleges and employers Partnerships with schools, colleges and other partners, including Networks and SSCs, to support and disseminate the development of good practice arising from the WBQ Principal Learning offer for 2011.

Application Process Expressions of interest were sent from Networks to DCELLS in July 2010 Applications from Networks to DCELLS by November for Sift process Networks will be notified of decisions in December with Ministerial Approval

Funding support Additional funding will be provided by DCELLS for the Networks to manage Specific pump priming funding will be provided - £2000 per line of learning Delivery Funding per learner for 2 years.
