Voluntary process Goal: improve and enhance educational programs for professional nursing students.

Reaccreditation process Preparation of self study document Gathering of supporting documentation Site visit by review team that includes observation of classes and clinicals, review of supporting documentation, meeting with key campus leaders, community partners and SON faculty/staff and students

Your role in reaccreditation Be present – greet visitors, attend sessions if requested Be aware of the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice and other standards Be prepared to share your experience in the nursing program

Essential #1:Liberal Education Essential #1:Liberal Education Outcome Acquire the foundations for living a productive life and being a citizen of the world by developing reasoning and communication skills.

Essential #2: Professional Values Essential #2: Professional Values Outcomes Develop the foundation for a professional self- concept and begin role socialization for professional nursing practice. Apply legal and ethical concepts and processes in the analysis of clinical situations. Discuss strategies that promote the quality of working life for health care professionals.

Essential #3 : Core Competencies Outcomes: Practice critical thinking in making clinical judgments Utilize appropriate interviewing techniques to obtain a health history Demonstrate the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan for addressing identified needs of individuals, families and communities.

Essential #4: Core Knowledge Outcomes Use sound clinical judgment, appropriate data sources and available documentation systems in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Examine epidemiological principles as a foundation for community health nursing practice.

Essential #5: Role Development Outcomes: Demonstrate understanding of and socialization into the role of becoming a beginning professional nurse in community health nursing and a member of the community health team. Critique the applicability of practice guidelines in a given setting.
