As an IB student, your child will learn a second language—a requisite for success in an increasingly-globalized 21st century economy. Your child will be encouraged to ask the tough questions, to reflect critically, and to develop formidable research skills—to learn how to learn. And IB programme encourage community service—so that the lessons of the classroom can be tested in the world at large. “Concurrency of learning”: As students mature and further develop their thinking skills, they explore the disciplines in increasing depth and realize how they are linked to each other and to local and global issues.

FAQ’s The IB Program sounds like a lot off extra work. What are the advantages of enrolling in the IB Program? Students with IB Diplomas, who now attend universities, report that their involvement with IB has given them the tools needed to succeed at university and to make the most of their post-secondary education. In particular, students comment on their sense of preparedness, their self-confidence, their research skills, their ability to manage their time, and their willingness to be actively engaged in their own learning. Even more importantly, they have developed a sense of the world around them, their responsibility to it, and the skills with which to embrace the complexities of life. The IBO often employs a variety of phrases to describe these traits and abilities: "learning how to learn", "life-long learners", "critical and compassionate thinkers", and, "informed participants in local and world affairs".

FAQ’s What is the average amount of time one should expect to spend on homework each night in IB? How should we study? From one to four hours per night: your study style is your own, but it is advisable to exercise good time-management skills.

FAQ’s Does the IB Diploma Program satisfy my State requirements for receiving a high school degree? Yes, as long as the student meets all the requirements of the IB Diploma program, he/she will meet all the requirements for a state of Florida diploma. They will also qualify for the state’s Bright future program. If the student withdraws from the IB program before graduation or fails to complete the requirements demanded by the IB Diploma program, then they will need to complete certain state mandated courses such as US Government and economics.

FAQ’s What is “CAS”?  CAS stands for Creativity-Action-Service. In order to successfully complete the IB Diploma Program, each student must have documented equal creative-action-service involvement in activities outside the classroom that are devoted to school, local, and, international communities. The commitment(s) should equal a total of150 hours. CAS project must take place during the eighteen months between the beginning of junior year and second semester senior year.

FAQ’s What is the “Extended Essay”? The Extended Essay is a 4,000 word piece of original research conducted by each IB Diploma candidate. It is completed between first semester of junior year and first semester of senior year. The student researches and writes on a topic of his/her choosing, and has an Extended Essay Coordinator, as well as an Extended Essay Advisor to help with the essay.

FAQ’s What is “Theory of Knowledge”?  Theory of Knowledge, or TOK, is a seminar-type course that explores the linkages between subject areas (courses). It is part existential, philosophical, psychological and metaphysical. It, also, is taken between second semester junior year and first semester senior year. Students submit a presentation-tape and reflective paper, in order to successfully complete the course.

FAQ’s How does the IB curriculum compare to AP? The IB curriculum is a rigorous well balanced one. Students must complete ALL prescribed courses as well as the EE, CAS project and TOK class. It is the well rounded nature of the IB program that colleges and universities value. All IB classes are weighted the same as AP ones. Some universities give credit for passing specific IB classes just as they do AP.
