Employability skills: communication team work problem-solving initiative and enterprise planning and organising self-management life long learning technology At the centre of all of these skills are high level literacy and numeracy

Curriculum Framework Victorian Careers How can I develop these skills? Complete as much education as possible! Did you know? High levels of education are associated with: Higher weekly earnings Lower unemployment rates Higher rates of fulltime employment 70% of workers with a university degree earn more than workers without post school qualifications – over a lifetime this can add up to $1.5 million!!

Think about what you like doing and what you are good at Think about what subjects you will need for your future career – this is particularly important if you are considering university as many courses have prerequisite subjects Keep your options open Be prepared to follow your dream - have high expectations of yourself Set yourself some goals – think about what support you might need to achieve these goals

Careers / MIPS teachers – visit the Careers Room as soon as possible to discuss your options Classroom teachers – ask them about what is involved in their subjects in Years 11 – 12 Family and friends – discuss what you are interested in with your parents – networking is very important in future job prospects Attend Careers Expos – ask lots of questions Participate in Try A Trade days, TAFE Tasters, University / TAFE Open Days Do some Work Experience – talk to employers
