North Mac Panthers Option Attack Offensive Philosophy Why we run the Option Sense of ownership in the program Force defense to defend entire field Establish the ground game Create mismatch at point of attack Minimize mistakes Physically and Mentally dominate the defense Creates a DISCIPLINED TEAM Allows both the coaching staff and players to prepare week to week because of the REPITION in practice
North Mac Panthers Option Attack Type of Players we look for Center Smart, leadership, work ethic Guard Strong, communication, aggressiveness Tackles Athletic, communication, patience Receivers BLOCKERS, toughness, speed, hands Running Backs Vision, agility, “never say die” attitude Quarterback Thick Skin, leader, coach on the field Everyone knows “he runs the show”
Midline Option 10/11
Midline Option 10/11 QB Footwork Fullback Track Mesh Read Toe to Instep QB opens to the hole and steps with the backside foot to 4 o’clock to the left and 8 o’clock to the right. QB must clear for the FB Never cross feet Fullback Track The play side foot steps towards the 0 or 1 hole The Fullback track is directly up the centers BUTT Mesh We want the QB to get the ball as deep as possible The QB clears gets the ball out and we call it “Riding the Table” The Fullback runs his track as hard and fast as he can (BTS) and never grabs or reaches for the ball Read On the snap the QB’s eyes go directly to the read key (3 tech) When in doubt QB always gives Fullback runs with head up and eyes open to read the center and play side guards block looking for second level defender
Triple Option 12/13
Triple Option 12/13 QB Footwork Fullback Track Reads Pitch Relation QB in a good athletic position with feet about shoulder width apart QB opens with play side foot at a 45 degree angle towards 8 o’clock to the left and 4 o’clock to the right QB opens and takes his 45 degree angle step while getting the ball as deep as possible “Riding the Table” getting the ball into the FB’s belly Fullback Track FB steps with the play side foot towards the 2 or 3 hole never looking for the ball while running down hill as hard as possible (BTS) FB stays this track until he gets to the second level covering the ball with both hands after clearing the second level FB is taught to find open real estate and “SCORE” Reads On the snap the QB eyes go directly to the #1 read key which is the defender that is head-up to outside of the offensive tackle After read #1 is made the QB gets his eyes to #2 which is either the OLB or DB depending on the call. Pitch Relation The QB runs plays and sets the course for the pitchman, we teach our halfbacks to be at 5 X 1 pitch relationship. It is the halfbacks job to stay in pitch relationship at all cost and be prepared to get the pitch and open real estate and “SCORE”
Outside Veer 14/15
Outside Veer 14/15 QB Footwork Fullback Track Reads Pitch Relation QB in a good athletic position with feet about shoulder width apart QB opens with play side foot a exaggerated lateral step towards 9 o’clock to the left and 3 o’clock to the right QB opens and takes a exaggerated lateral step while getting the ball as deep as possible “Riding the Table” getting the ball into the FB’s belly Fullback Track FB steps with the play side foot towards the 4 or 5 hole never looking for the ball while running down hill as hard as possible (BTS) FB stays this track until he gets to the second level covering the ball with both hands after clearing the second level FB is taught to find open real estate and “SCORE” Reads On the snap the QB eyes go directly to the #1 read key which is the defender that is head-up to outside of the offensive tackle After read #1 is made the QB gets his eyes to #2 which is either the OLB or DB depending on the call.
