NCAA Eligibility NCAA Division I requires 16 core courses as of August 1, This rule applies to any student first entering any Division I college or university on or after August 1, See the chart below for the breakdown of this 16 core- course requirement. NCAA Division II requires 14 core courses. See the breakdown of core- course requirements below. Please note, Division II will require 16 core courses beginning August 1, Only core courses are used in the calculation of the grade-point average. Be sure to look at your high school’s list of NCAA-approved core courses on the Eligibility Center's Web site to make certain that courses being taken have been approved as core courses. DIVISION II 14 Core-Course Rule 14 Core Courses: 3 years of English. 2 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher). 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). 2 years of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. 2 years of social science. 3 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or non-doctrinal religion/philosophy). Grade Level Classification: Academic Grade vs. Social Grade The academic grade classification of a student indicates the student’s progress toward meeting unit requirements for graduation. 1.Each student’s academic grade classification for the next school year shall be determined by the number of units accomplished as follows: 9 th – units 10 th – units Students must be an academic 10 th grader to take the California High School Exit Exam 2.Annual academic grade classification of each student will be determined mid-August.

Home of the Highlanders! Attendance EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN HIGH SCHOOL! Excused Absences Illness, Doctor visits, Funeral, Court Appearance, Religious Holidays Vacation is NOT an excused absence! Unexcused Absences Result In Unit Loss 3 unexcused = 1 unit lost 6 unexcused = 2 units lost 9 unexcused = 3 units lost (Must Repeat Course at this point) 12 unexcused = 4 units lost 15 unexcused = defaults to an “F” in class 3-day Notification: Parent/guardian must call or send a note to the Attendance Office within three days of absence. Numbers: (562) or Unit make up can begin in summer school or during 11 th grade year.

Student Support –Freshman Focus Additional bi-weekly progress reports for 9 th Grade English, Math, and Science Classes starting in January Reward Rally held in the spring –AERIES ABI Monitor your student’s grades, attendance, assignments, and progress. Students can check too!!!!

After school tutoring Monday – Thursday in room 84 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm Calculus Club Math Tutoring – Library at Lunch Monday through Thursday Library open during lunch and after school for student access, computer use and studying. Hours: 7:15 am – 3:45 pm
